Summer Term 1: Big data
This half term, we have looked at how ‘the internet of things’; collecting and utilising data; and technology can be used to make people’s lives more efficient. We have designed a smart city, and we have made presentations using PowerPoint to pitch ideas to create a smart school.
Spring Term 2- Programming
In computing, we have been learning about coding. We have been ‘tinkering’ using the turtle academy website using the Logo program. We have created algorithms using repetitions and loops to create our own Spirograph style patterns.
We also used the trinket website to remix pre-prepared code in python to create our own artwork using loops. We particularly enjoyed experimenting with the codes for creating different colours and predicting which colour the code would create.
Spring Term 1- Data handing
In lessons 3 and 4 we looked at RFID technology. We explored how it could be used in theme parks to enter the park, enter hotel rooms, pay for items and for fast track ride tickets. We added data about the waiting time for rides to an Excel spreadsheet and we created a range of charts and graphs. We discussed which chart or graph helped us best to analyse the data and then selected which ride we would use a fast pass for and why.
