Brilliant Butterlies!

Welcome to our Reception class, we are called The Brilliant Butterflies. Our teachers are Mrs Borrington, Mrs Lilley and Mrs Noon.

This year we are going to have so much fun and learn so many new things. What an adventure we will have together!

Our Curriculum:

Within the Early Years Foundation Stage, learning concentrates on seven areas.

These are split between prime and specific areas of learning.

The prime areas of learning are:

* Personal, Social and Emotional Development

* Physical Development

* Communication and Language

The specific areas of learning are:

* Literacy

* Mathematics

* Understanding the World

* Expressive Arts and Design

Each of these areas is implemented through planned and purposeful play, a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activities. The children experience an exciting curriculum, both indoors and outdoors. The curriculum is creative and play-based and challenges each child to achieve their individual potential. Children are encouraged to become independent and active learners through effective teaching and learning opportunities. Active learning and creative thinking are critical to each child’s development. We ensure that there is a balance of creative adult initiated activities, opportunities and resources for your child to initiate their own learning both indoors and outdoors. This inspires them to gain a curiosity of the world around them, develop their social skills and be motivated to try new activities.

WOW Moments - We encourage parents to share the achievements of their child out of school using the WOW moment slips. The children put these into our special, golden basket on the classroom door ready for us to share in class with friends. Children also enjoy receiving the praise and recognition of their success from their peers. We can also use wow moments to add to our assessments of your child's progress in different areas of the curriculum.

Butterfly Bulletin! - We send home a weekly newsletter to let you know what we have been learning about each week. We also include notes and reminders of upcoming events and activities.

Forest School in Reception

On week one we started our mini beast topic by making bug hotels. We learnt the new word habitat and had to work as a team to create a habitat in the forest.
Week two of Forest School we explored symmetry in nature. We made symmetrical collage butterflies with natural materials.
Week 3 in the forest we made worms in camouflage colours and bright colours. Then we played hide and seek with them in the forest. Which worms do you think we found first?
