Electricity

In this topic, we will build on the work we did in our Year 4 electricity unit. We will learn to represent circuits using symbols in a diagram and we will get the opportunity to develop our understanding of what electricity is and how to measure it. We will find out about two of the most important scientific inventors in the field of electricity – Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla.

Objectives covered:

  • I can show that the brightness of a lamp or the volume of a buzzer depends on the number and voltage of cells used in the circuit.
  • I can compare and give reasons for variations in how components function, including the brightness of bulbs, the loudness of buzzers and the on/off position of switches.
  • I can draw a diagram using recognised symbols to represent a simple circuit.
