Music
'Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children. It is a vehicle for personal expression, and it can play an important part in the personal development of people. Music reflects the culture and society we live in, and so the teaching and learning of music enables children to better understand the world they live in. It also plays an important part in helping children feel part of a community'.
At Overseal Primary School, we believe that music is a vital and enriching part of every child’s education. Our intent is to inspire creativity, build confidence, and foster a lifelong love of music in all our pupils. Using the Kapow Primary Music Scheme, our curriculum is carefully designed to develop musical skills progressively through a wide range of engaging and inclusive activities.
Our music curriculum ensures that all children:
Listen to, appreciate, and respond to a wide variety of music from different times, places, and cultures.
Perform confidently using their voices and a range of tuned and untuned instruments, both individually and in groups.
Compose and improvise music, exploring sound and creating their own musical ideas.
Understand and apply key musical concepts, including rhythm, pitch, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, and structure.
Through the Kapow scheme, lessons are structured to build upon prior learning and support both specialist and non-specialist teachers. The curriculum is aligned with the National Curriculum and provides opportunities for children to explore and express themselves through music while developing key skills such as teamwork, resilience, and creativity.
We aim to make music accessible and enjoyable for all, ensuring every child leaves primary school with a strong foundation in music and the confidence to pursue their interests further.
