Supporting EBSA
Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
This is a term used when a child or young person is finding it hard to go to school, or take part in certain parts of the school day, because of how they’re feeling. This might be due to anxiety, worries, fear, stress, or feeling overwhelmed.
EBSA isn’t about a child choosing not to go to school or being deliberately difficult. It’s usually a sign that something is feeling too big or too challenging for them emotionally. With understanding and the right support, most children can begin to feel safer and more confident about school again.
