Parent/Carer Offer and Support
Our SEND Policy Offer to Parents/Carers
We work closely with parents and children to ensure that we take into account the child’s own views and aspirations and the parents’ experience of, and hopes for, their child. Parents are invited to be involved at every stage of planning and reviewing SEND provision for their child.
We consult with parents/carers in the following ways:
• Parents’/carers’ evenings;
• Ongoing discussions with a class teacher and/or SENDCo;
• An ‘open-door’ policy, where parents and carers are welcome to discuss any concerns they may have;
• Through a review of a child’s SEND Support Plan or the Annual Review of their Statement of SEN or EHC Plan;
• One-page profiles will be shared with parents;
• Parents of pupils with an IEP will receive a termly phone call, in addition to parent/carer evenings;
• Parents of pupils with an EHCP will receive a termly face-to-face meeting, in addition to their annual review meeting and parent/carer evenings.
Parent/Carer Coffee Mornings
Each term, we host parent/carer coffee mornings. These sessions are open to all parents/carers, everyone is welcome. The coffee mornings provide opportunities for school staff and specialists to share information and offer support to families. We work closely with The Inclusion Support Advisory Service and Changing Lives, who frequently lead parent/carer workshops.
We have offered support with and discussed the following:
- Transitions
- Derbyshire Sensory Toolkit
- Emotional Regulation
- Anxiety
- Shared a SEND library of children's story books and useful resources
- Comic strip conversations and social stories
- Community support and activities/clubs
The coffee mornings are a perfect chance to ask questions, have a coffee and a biscuit and talk to other parents/carers in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
