Forces and Magnets

This term, we will be looking at Forces and Magnets and their role in everyday life. We will be looking at how forces such as gravity, friction and air resistance affect us and carrying out investigations to find out more. We will be looking at key scientists, such as Isaac Newton and his discoveries about gravity.

Key objectives:

  • I can explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the falling object.
  • I can demonstrate the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces.
  • I can show that some mechanisms, including levers, pulleys and gears, allow a smaller force to have a greater effect.
