Brain warm up: Choose a way to warm up your brain by recalling Phase 3 sounds. You could use your own flashcards or the PhonicsPlay website ‘Flashcard Speed Trial’ or ‘A Giggling Grapheme’.


Phase 4 learning: To practise blending and reading Phase 4 words, play Make a Match or Reading Robot’ on the Phonics play website or choose an activity from the ‘PHONICS resources and weblinks’ section on the main page.

Wednesday Writing: Spider Lifecycle

What is a baby spider called?

What is an egg sack?

**Watch the clip, look at the powerpoint with your adult and discuss the lifecycle of a spider. Then put the pictures of the stages of the lifecycle in order using the sheet below or draw your own pictures! Talk through the different stages and try and explain what is happening using some of the key vocabulary. Finally, writ a few sentences to explain some of the spider lifecycle.**

Key questions:

What is a lifecycle?

How is it similar to other lifecycles you have learned about?

What are the different stages?

Key vocabulary: egg sack, web, spin, silk, spiderling, adult


Things to remember to be a good writer:

  • Think about your letter formation (use letter families poster)
  • Are there any phase 3 digraphs/digraphs you can use in the words? (You could use your phase 3 sound mat)
  • Any longer words, remember to chop them up into parts to make it easier to sound out for writing
  • Finger spaces needed between each word

Wednesday Maths: Find half of numbers to 20


You will need: 20 objects for counting, a part part whole diagram drawn on a sheet of paper and a pencil to record your answers.

** Use your objects and share them out to find half of the passengers in the carriages. Record your ideas using a part part whole diagram **


If you would like another activity, then use the Powerpoint and your objects to share the amount of fruit between the parrots to find half.
