Here are the activities for the day...

READING: Please can you spend 10 minutes+ daily reading/ sharing books  (story or non-fiction) with an adult or older sibling. See the 'Reading weblinks' folder for Oxford Owl free online eBooks if you want some new ideas.

 

** Today, focus on the careful blending of sounds in unfamiliar words (that can be decoded) using alphabet sounds and digraphs/ trigraphs. Why not copy out some of the words and show where the sound buttons would go? Remember, a digraph/ trigraph will only have one sound button for it as it is one sound with two/ three letters **

 

 

Key questions of the day...

Q. Is there a PROBLEM in your story?

Q> What is it and how is it resolved?

Q. How would you sort out that problem?

 

Things to remember to be a good reader...

- Look at front cover to work out the title.

- Can you find the author's name?

- Be a good digraph detective!

- Track words with your finger.

-  Look out for any tricky words you know how to read by sight.

- Use WORD BREAKDOWN to say when there's a word you don't understand or know what it means in the story context.

PHONICS - Why not make yourself some easy phase 3 digraph/ trigraph flashcards at home? You just need bits of paper/ old food boxes cut into squares and write on the sound. How many sounds can you say in 1 minute?!

 

 

** Use/ refer to the sound button cards to pick words to practise blending using the phase 3 digraphs/ trigraphs you've learnt.

WRITING – So the plan is coming together!

Evil Pea and the pea gang won’t get away with mischief for much longer!

 

   

 

** Use the story map (you can just draw three big boxes/ circles on paper) to show the beginning, middle and end of the Evil Pea capture.

 

 

BEGINNING – Draw pictures and add relevant labels to show where Evil Pea and the pea gang are (the story setting).

 

MIDDLE – Supertato and/or the Super Veggies come along and use the equipment from your list on Monday to capture Evil Pea and pea gang.

 

ENDING – Supertato and the Super Veggies celebrate!

 

Things to remember...

- Use the story telling language

'Once upon a time... happily ever after... the end'

to explain your story.

MATHS – 3D (fat) shapes

 

** Let’s be a SHAPE DETECTIVE!

Use the 3D shapes mat to help you learn the names for these ‘fat’ shapes.

Have a look around your house and see what real-life everyday 3D objects you can find, eg. tin of beans is a cylinder…

 

 

** Practise being able to NAME the different 3D shapes found…
