This week we are going to become shopkeepers!

I'd like you to set up your own little shop somewhere at home.

Make it as simple or fancy as you'd like!

What is your shop going to be called?

What are you going to sell in your shop?

- toys, food, fruit/ veg, books, shoes...

 

We’d love to see a photo of your shop, so feel free to show us on Tapestry!

 

** All of the learning this week will be for your new job as a shopkeeper!!

WRITING - Here are some shop-related writing opportunities that you can complete during the week (pick and choose each day as you wish)...

 

* Make a shop sign

* Write a price list

* Create a leaflet to advertise your shop

* Make a ‘special offer’ poster for one item in your shop

 

With all of the writing opportunities, remember to use your phonics skills to sound out the words to write. Any tricky words (from phase 2 or 3 tricky word mat), try and remember how to spell them correctly.

 

Things to remember to be a good writer

 

- Think about your letter formation (use the letter families poster)

- Are there are phase 3 digraphs/ trigraphs you can use in the words?

- Finger space needed between each word

- Any longer words, remember to chop them up into two parts to make it easier to sound out for writing

MATHS - In shopkeeper role this week, we'll be learning about money.

 

Activity:

 

Using only 1p (and 2p when confident) coins to pay amounts up to 10p.

Top tip: Draw dots under the coins to help you count up how much money, eg. 1p coins needs 1 dot and 2p coins need 2 dots

 

Use the language of money in your role play, eg.

"Please can I buy.... How much does it cost?"

"You need to pay me...... pence."

"Is that enough money?" (too much/ not enough yet)

 

Things to remember to help you be a good mathematician

 

- To help you add up the coins/ pay the right amount, in school we drew dots underneath the coins to represent their value and help us add up the money we had, eg. 1p – 1 dot, 2p - two dots, 5p – 5 dots.

- Make sure to say ‘p/ pence/ pennies’ when talking about money

READING

This week for reading activities, as well as enjoying paper version books in your house as I’m sure you do anyway, I’d like you to explore the online world of books. I’ll post website links for online books/ audio books that you can enjoy accessing through the week.

 

Things to remember to be a good reader

 

- What is the title of the book?

- Is there an author’s name on the front cover?

 

- Is the book you’ve chosen a story or non-fiction book?

- What is the difference between a story/ non-fiction book?

Eg. made up, fantasy, characters, real information, facts, contents page, photos, labels, captions, index…

 

- What did you like about the book/ learn from the book?

 

- Continue to use the reading strategy WORD BREAKDOWN 

to ask an adult if there are any words you don’t understand,

Eg. “I’ve had a word breakdown. What does...... mean?"
