Please can you choose a book and spend 10 minutes+ reading/sharing it with an adult or older sibling. It can be a book that you have at home or an eBook on the Oxford Owl website.


If you would like another activity, read the captions and move like the minibeast!


Brain warm up: Choose a tricky word that you find hard (It could be Phase 3 or 4) and see how many times you can write it accurately in 30 seconds. You will need an adult to time you or learn how to use a timer yourself. Repeat this with another word or two.


Phase 4 learning: Look at the phase 4 sounds mat and read the sounds and words. Now choose some of the words and write them in a sentence.

Writing: Lifecycle of a Butterfly

Watch this clip to remind yourself of the stages of the butterfly lifecycle.

Today, you will add a sentence to each of your pictures on your diagram of the lifecycle of the butterfly. Say your sentence out loud first to get your ideas ready. Try to use some key vocabulary in your senetnces.

For more challenge, try to use some time words to order the stages e.g. First, then, next, after that

- FIRST the eggs are laid on a leaf.

- THEN the egg hatches and out comes a tiny caterpillar.

- NEXT the caterpillar eats and eats and gets fatter and fatter

- AFTER THAT the caterpillar makes a chrysalis.

- FINALLY, the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis.


Key vocabulary: caterpillar, butterfly, egg, hatch, chrysalis, lay, emerge


Things to remember to be a good writer:

  • Think about your letter formation (use letter families poster)
  • Are there any phase 3 digraphs/digraphs you can use in the words? (You could use your phase 3 sound mat)
  • Any longer words, remember to chop them up into parts to make it easier to sound out for writing
  • Finger spaces needed between each word


Maths: 3D shapes

You will need:

A pencil and a sheet of paper/shape hunt sheet.

**Go on a 3D shape hunt and try to find some 3D shapes around your home. write a list of the shapes that you find or draw a picture. Or have a look at the PPT below and try to identify which 3D shape it is.**
