Lesson 4 - Fractions as operators

Today, as you have been used to doing, you will first need to visit the White Rose website for the video slides, and worksheets. (I’ve also put the question sheet and answer sheet below.)

Don’t forget, you can watch, pause and rewind the video as you need to.

Thursday 4th June

TBAT use description and figurative language.

Watch the video clip again. Today, we’re going to be putting ourselves in the shoes of the giraffes.

Imagine how they must be feeling at each point in the film:

Are they scared? Are they apprehensive? Are they nervous? Are they excited?

Imagine what they can see and hear around them at different points in the film:

The long, slow walk from the changing rooms to the poolside; the echoing of the empty hall; the ever-lasting climb to the top of the ladder; the moment before they leap from the diving board or enter the water.

In your neatest handwriting, your task is to write about the event from the giraffe’s point of view.

Don’t forget also to include the alliteration, onomatopoeia and similes and metaphors from previous days learning.

The sound of my heart echoed through my ears as I paced up and down the changing room. This was it! Today would be the day |I had been waiting for. I was one of the selected few who would join the elite team of diving giraffes – the first the world had ever seen!

Together, we made our way along the tiled tunnel towards the Olympic-sized swimming pool. It would of course be empty today, this was just a practise after all, but the next time I stepped foot on that ladder and made my way up towards the highest diving board, the whole hall would be filled with cheering and audacious audience!

Tentatively, I lifted a trotter on to the ladder, then another and another – my nerves fading with each rung I climbed.

Complete the work in your exercise book or type it up. Then, send me a copy to year5@overseal.derbyshire.sch.uk

RE - Sikhism

The Gudwara

Today, we’re going to be reminding ourselves of what we know about a Sikh Gudwara.

You can recall our lessons and our visit to derby and you can also watch the BBC videos below.

Once you have done this, go to your Purple Mash 2Do’s.

Here, you will find a leaflet about the Gudwara. There is a short video clip when you open your 2Do which will help you.

Your task is to complete the leaflet, explaining everything you know about a Sikh Gudwara. (Don’t forget to click on the green arrows at the bottom of the screen to turn the pages of the leaflet.)
