Maths - Lesson 4 - The 5 times-table

Today, as you have been used to doing, you will first need to visit the White Rose website for the video. The White Rose website link below will take you to the correct page for Year 2.

Watch the video slides – pause and rewind as you need to. Then, answer the questions on the activity sheets in your exercise book. The answers are there for you to check, too.

You can also visit the BBC website, following the link below, for additional videos and activities on today's lesson if you would like further support with your learning.

Literacy

Today, you will be writing about your favourite book character. You will need to think carefully about your previous learning on writing character descriptions.

Think about the following success criteria:

  • heading
  • expanded noun phrases to describe the character's appearance (what they look like)
  • adjectives to describe the character's personality (what kind of character they are)
  • hobbies (what they enjoy doing)

Don't forget to use your phonics to help you sound out. Remember to spell the Year 1 and Year 2 common exception words correctly too. There are some resources to support you with phonics and spelling on the main class page.

Log on to Purple Mash and click the 2do 'My character is...'.

Topic

Seeing as though you enjoyed the typing lesson last week and as we’re all finding ourselves having to use computers and type a lot more, I thought we would have another typing lesson this week.

Purple Mash has lots of activities which help us to learn to type and hopefully it will help you to become a little quicker too.

Go to your Purple Mash home page.

Then, follow the steps below.

Bottom Row keys

I have put pictures below of what you should see on your screen as you follow the steps above.

Today, we will complete ‘Bottom Row Keys’.

There are three activities, ending in a ‘beat the clock’ game.

I will only set the 2do for the final game, but by practising each of these activities first, you’ll get better much quicker and begin to learn how to type properly.

You are able to alter the time to more or less minutes - it depends how you get on. Also, you might want to do some of the activities just the once, others more times. Can you beat your time? I know I kept wanting to beat mine!

Have fun learning to type!
