Good Morning Brilliant Butterflies!

Yesterday's flowers were tulips!

Can you name this little, white flower?

READING

** Today, enjoy sharing a book(s) with an adult/ older sibling.

Give a simple book review about it, eg. What is it about? Who is in it? What happens/ problem? How does it end? Do you like it?

Give it a star rating out of 5! **

Key questions of the day...

Q. What is the name of your book?

Q. What star rating would you give it?

PHONICS:

Brain warm up: Choose a way to warm up your brain by recalling Phase 3 sounds: You could use your own flahcards or the PhonicsPlay website ‘Flashcard Speed Trial’ or ‘A Giggling Grapheme’.

Phase 4 work: Play a game of real or alien words with the phase 4 word cards that you have collected this week and last week. Use your blending skills to read the words and sort them into your ‘fake’ and ‘real’ boxes/bags. For every one you read correctly you get a point! Remember that drawing sound buttons underneath can really help you! Or if you prefer, then you could play some computer games to practice phase 4.

MATHS:

Number patterns

Click on the link below and complete the number blocks pattern quiz by choosing the number block that comes next in the sequence.

(If you’d rather not go on the computer then there are also suggestions for how you could create your own repeating patterns on the week 4 page ‘Get creative with Patterns’)

Key questions:

What is the pattern?

What comes next?/ How would the pattern carry on?

How do you know it’s a pattern?

Can you explain the pattern?

WRITING:

Today and tomorrow, you will be writing the story of the Three Pigs using your story map that you created on Tuesday. See if you can include some story language e.g. Once upon a time, the end.

I can't wait to read your stories!

Things to remember to be a good writer:

  • Think about your letter formation (use letter families poster)
  • Are there any phase 3 digraphs/digraphs you can use in the words? (You could use your phase 3 sound mat)
  • Any longer words, remember to chop them up into parts to make it easier to sound out for writing
  • Finger spaces needed between each word

If you want more challenge then, instead of using the sentences that the teacher suggests, you could stop the video and use your story map to write your own sentences. Also, instead of using the word bank, have a go at the words yourself!

More Challenge:

Use CL to start sentences and for names

Use a full stop at the end of sentences

Read through your writing and check it makes sense and punctuation is accurate

Extend sentences with connectives ‘and’, ‘because’, ‘so’

Use a range of vocabulary
