Monday

PHONICS:

Brain warm up: Write out the alphabet in lower case letters.

Phase 4 learning: To practise blending and reading Phase 4 words, you can either play Dragon’s Den, Picnic on Pluto or Buried Treasure on the Phonics play website or choose an activity from the ‘PHONICS resources and weblinks’ section on the main page.

Monday Writing: Poems and rhyming words

**Ask your adult to read some 'minibeast poems' with you and try to listen out for some rhyming words. Remember to listen and look for rhyming words at the end of the line! Then look at the 'rhyming pictures' and find the rhyming pairs. If you would like to, then write down some of the rhyming words e.g. 'dog and frog.' Now read the matching rhyming sentences. Maybe you could think of a rhyming sentence of your own?

E.g. I can see a buzzy bee. **

Things to remember to be a good writer:

  • Think about your letter formation (use letter families poster)
  • Are there any phase 3 digraphs/digraphs you can use in the words? (You could use your phase 3 sound mat)
  • Any longer words, remember to chop them up into parts to make it easier to sound out for writing
  • Finger spaces needed between each word

Monday Maths: Describe capacities of containers

Capacity means the amount a container can hold. Today we are learning about how to describe the amount of liquid in a container.

You will need: some water in a container, some containers to pour some water in to.

** Have a go at filling your containers with water and use the star words to describe them.**

Can you be a superstar learner and use the maths star words today?

*most, least, full, empty, nearly full, nearly empty *

The best way to learn about capacity is by exploring using real containers. However, if you would like another activity, then use the sheet below and match the container to the description of how much liquid it is holding.

Water Safety

How can you stay safe near water? Do you know how to stay safe at the swimming pool? Look at the pictures and talk about where people are being safe and where they are not keeping safe.
