Maths - Lesson 1 - Adding and subtracting tens

Today, as you have been used to doing, you will first need to visit the White Rose website for the video. The White Rose website link below will take you to the correct page for Year 2.

Watch the video slides – pause and rewind as you need to. Then, answer the questions on the activity sheets in your exercise book. The answers are there for you to check, too.

You can also visit the BBC website, following the link below, for additional videos and activities on today's lesson if you would like further support with your learning.

This week, we will be using the BBC lessons for our home learning activities. Follow the link below.

First, watch the short video and discuss what a story is and how stories can be different.

Think about the following questions:

What is your favourite book?

Why is it your favourite story?

Do you have a favourite author?

Then follow the activities.

Activity 1 - Ask your family about their favourite childhood books. Do the titles of each book give you some clues about what they might be like?

Activity 2 - Using 'because' and 'when'. Watch the video to remind you how to use because and when to join ideas together. Then try the short quiz.

Activity 3 - How good are you at predicting?

There is a story called 'The Magic Faraway Tree'. Take a few minutes to think about the name of the story and discuss what you think it might be about with your family or those around you.

Using the sentence stems below, write some simple sentences about what you think the story will be about. Use 'because', 'if' and 'when' in your sentences.

I think _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

I hope _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

I wonder _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Remember to re-read what you write to check it makes sense.

Topic - CEOP Online safety

We are still spending more time than we would normally on a computer to complete work, play games or talk to friends and family. Therefore, it is important we remember how to keep ourselves and others safe whilst using the internet.

Today, all year groups will be doing some activities about staying safe online. If you follow the link below, it will take you to the 'Think You Know' home learning activity pack 3. I have also uploaded this activity sheet below.

You can email any work to year2@overseal.derbyshire.sch.uk
